Flipnem's MCP is a Game Changer

Using Flipnem's MCP is a game changer.

It allows for the quick capture of things you learn along the way. How I wish I could instantly remember these important things! But hey, that's what spaced repetition systems are for. :)

The Detour

Today I was hacking on my build env, writing shell scripts to help optimize it. I was fighting the usual push/pull of "do I just have Claude write this script, or do I do it myself?"

I chose the road less travelled, and it felt good. :)

Why? The obvious reasons: I took the time to grow my own skills. I stopped being a dumb minion for the smarter AI and clawed back a little knowledge for myself.

And Flipnem helped me.

Claude explaining two Bash looping techniques: piping into a while read loop, and a for item in $(command) loop, along with a subshell/process-substitution gotcha — Learning the two ways to loop over a command's output in Bash.

Instead of just letting that knowledge slip by once the script was written, I asked Claude to turn it into a card right there in the terminal, through the Flipnem MCP.

Terminal chat: user asks Claude to make a Flipnem card in the Misc deck for the looping techniques, requiring both ways to be named; Claude confirms it added the card — One request, and the card exists in my Misc deck.

Now this pearl is in my Misc deck, and it's going to pop up and I will learn it.

The new card showing up during a Flipnem study review, asking to name the two common ways to loop over a command's output in Bash — And there it is, back in front of me during review.

The ability to identify an important thing and quickly ensure it's part of your quiver is awesome.
