Undo a buried card
Buried a card by mistake? The confirmation toast now has an Undo — it restores the card and its due count and brings it back as your next card. We also stopped browser and OS keyboard shortcuts (like Cmd/Ctrl+minus to zoom out) from accidentally triggering card actions while studying.
Custom colors for study controls
Set your own accent color for the study screen’s controls — Show answer, the palette and mnemonic buttons, the progress bar, and pagination — from Settings → Appearance. Pick a swatch that suits your theme; the answer rating buttons keep their familiar colors.
Discoverable remote MCP server
Flipnem is now a discoverable remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so AI assistants like Claude can find it, sign in with OAuth, and securely connect to your account with no manual setup. We follow the MCP standard for OAuth auto-discovery and are getting listed in public MCP directories and connector catalogs — making Flipnem easy to discover as the spaced-repetition flashcard tool for AI agents. Study and Review from the deck inspector
The deck inspector now has Study and Review buttons in its header, so you can jump straight into a session without going back to the decks list.
Tap to dismiss mnemonics
On touch devices with tap gestures enabled, a single tap now hides a revealed mnemonic — matching the tap-to-reveal behavior on card faces. Taps still pass through to links and animation controls inside the mnemonic.
AI agents on the free plan
Connecting an AI assistant via MCP — and minting API keys for it — is no longer Scholar-only: the free Learner plan can now build and review decks with AI too. Free accounts are bounded by a 1,000-card limit and 250 MB of media storage, with clear in-app warnings as you approach them. Scholar keeps unlimited decks and cards.
Screen reader support
Flipnem now works with screen readers, tested end-to-end with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS. Study cards, rating buttons and their intervals, menus and dialogs, the deck list and inspector, and page navigation are all announced clearly — and there’s a new accessible-flashcards page describing the support.
Media syncing management
Media now syncs lazily — cached as you view cards, never as a surprise bulk download over cellular. Pre-fetch what you need with Sync Upcoming Media (in Settings, or per deck from the new Data Syncing & Media panel), see per-deck coverage at a glance, and clear cached media any time.
Deck style reset
A new Reset Style action on the deck info page strips a deck’s style overrides (font, text alignment, card background) so it follows your global Settings styles again.
Study session transitions
Card changes and answer reveals now ease in with a quick, subtle transition instead of snapping.
Menu and modal transitions
All menus, dialogs, and toasts across the app open with a consistent entrance animation. Dismissal stays instant.
Tags and source notes removed from encrypted decks
Encrypted decks no longer support tags or source notes — both would leak plaintext alongside encrypted card content. Enabling encryption now warns you and removes them.
Tighter email validation
Signup email validation now matches what our email provider will actually deliver to, preventing accounts that could never receive confirmation mail.
Offline studying
Flipnem is now local-first: your decks live on your device, and studying, card edits, new cards, images, and tag changes all work without a connection — everything syncs when you’re back online.
FSRS-6 scheduling on your device
Scheduling upgraded to FSRS-6 and now runs right on your device, so answers are computed instantly — online or offline.
Go Offline mode
A user-controlled Offline mode (bottom of the profile menu) locks Flipnem down so no network requests are made — handy for testing that your decks work offline or for staying off the network while studying.
App-icon badge for due cards
Installed as a PWA, the Flipnem app icon now shows how many reviews are due (Desktop and iOS).

This changelog page now documents every customer-facing update. Subscribe with your email to get notified when new features and improvements ship.

Fixed a bug where cards in encrypted decks could display escaped HTML and lose line breaks. Encrypted deck content now renders correctly.

MCP image uploads
AI agents connected via the Flipnem MCP server can now upload images directly to cards using the upload_media tool. Images are stored and rendered identically to any other card media.

Card styling on all plans
Custom card backgrounds and typography are now available on the free Learner plan. Previously Scholar-only.
Card reorder by drag and drop
Drag cards to rearrange their order in the deck inspector. The new order is saved immediately.
Smart card text color
When you set a custom card background, the text color adjusts automatically for readability using WCAG contrast calculations.
AI-managed decks via MCP
Connect any MCP-compatible AI assistant to Flipnem and let it build, populate, and review your decks. Enable agent write access on any deck from deck settings. The AI can create sub-decks, add cards, and run interactive study sessions without leaving your chat.
Flipnem Basic note type
A native note type with dedicated mnemonic fields. Add a memory hook to any card and review it alongside the front and back. Decks imported from Anki prefer Flipnem Basic when compatible.
Deck trash & restore
Deleted decks now move to a trash bin instead of being permanently removed. Restore them any time within 30 days.
